An der Neuen Mottlau

Motławska

History

Located on the Neue Mottlau (New Mottlau), which was artificially created between 1361 and 1378 to protect the granaries. Named after the bastion of the same name, which until 1792 was partly called Hundewall (Dog Rampart) and partly Am Graben (At the Moat). The first of the two old names applied to the section between Thornsche Brücke and Brandgasse and derives from the dogs kept here to guard Speicherinsel (Granary Island). The second old name applied to the section between Schleifengasse and Turmgasse.
