An der Radaune

Karpia

History

This street was created as a riverside road after the mouth of the Radaune Canal was relocated in the 17th century. For this reason it was initially also called An der Radaune (At the Radaune). Only from around 1840 was it regularly called Karpfenseigen. The name comes from the Seigen (fish ponds) in which fish were kept fresh in the Radaune Canal. Whether these were only carp cannot be verified. Today's name means, in translation, Carp Lane.
