Brandstelle

Zgorzelisko

Auf der Brandstelle

History

In 1624, this name did not yet exist; the area was considered part of Tischlergasse and Vergessene Gasse (later known as Kleine Ölmühlengasse). In 1694, the current name first appeared in the form "Auf der Brandstelle" (At the Fire Site) in a register of Old Town watch fees. On some of the earliest postwar city maps, the street was still listed under the correctly translated name Zgorzelisko, but it soon vanished during reconstruction.
