Büttelhof
Mało Dobrych
Alte Büttelei, Gang Nach der Alten Büttelei
History
This small cul-de-sac branching off Portechaisengasse was the site of the old Büttelei (bailiff's quarters), where the executioner lived. Because of this, Portechaisengasse itself was also called Büttelgasse. In the 15th century, the Büttelei was relocated to a more remote spot on what is now Büttelgasse. To distinguish it from this new Büttelei, the Büttelhof was also called "Gang nach der alten Büttelei" (passage to the old Büttelei) at the end of the 17th century. Before 1937, the alley was renamed Alte Büttelei (Old Büttelei). After the war, it still appeared on the oldest city map of 1946 under the somewhat curious name Mało Dobrych (Street of the Not-So-Good), but it disappeared shortly thereafter.
