History

In 1624, together with the adjoining part of Jungferngasse and Kleine Bäckergasse, it was called Rittergasse. Probably already in the 17th century, certainly by 1763, this name in the form Burggrabengasse. In 1796 and 1806, the later Katharinenkirchensteig was still counted as part of it. From 1817 the name applied in its known extent. Since the end of the war it has been called Podzamcze — translated as Outer Castle.
