Ferkelmarkt
n. e.
History
This lane, together with Langgasse, forms one of the oldest parts of the Main Town. Until the 17th century both were considered a single unit and known under the name Langgasse. Only from the 17th century onward did the designation Langer Markt (Long Market) emerge. This market was enclosed on the east by the Koggentor. The gate built in its place in 1568, still standing today, is called the Grünes Tor (Green Gate) because of the green paint on the sandstone articulation. The area between the Main Town Hall and the Neptune Fountain was called Ferkelmarkt (Piglet Market) in 1653.
