Große Allee
Rokossowskiego
History
Laid out by Mayor Gralath (1768-70). Since it led in the direction of Langfuhr, it was called Langenfuhrtsche Allee on an 1822 city map. Even before the death of Danzig's honorary citizen and Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg, the street was renamed after him on May 24, 1933. The later Am Steffenpark also originally belonged to the Große Allee. The uniform property numbering introduced in 1915 for this street was adopted unchanged after the war — it remains in effect to this day. After the war it was called Aleja Marszałka Rokossowskiego until November 17, 1956. Today this street's name translates to Victory Avenue, thus commemorating all victories ever won.
