Grüner Weg

Zielona

History

Like the other lanes of the Lower Town, this lane was created in the first half of the 17th century after the construction of the bastion fortifications, on the eastern side of the last drainage ditch, which ran in the direction from the rampart to Abeggasse and was located where the houses between Grüner Weg and Stiftsgasse now stand. Of today's Grüner Weg, the section from Abeggasse to Grabengasse was called Bärengasse (Bear Lane) around 1650, while the remaining part was called Läwgasse. In 1763, the lane was called Letzter Graben (Last Ditch), a name that was also used for the adjacent Grabengasse in 1817. It has been listed under the name Grüner Weg (Green Way) in the address book since 1881.

Since the war, it has been called Green Lane in translation.
