History

Starting as a modest cross-lane at the Fischmarkt, then continuing with the Holy Ghost Hospital relocated here as its namesake, it received its final name from some man called Tobias. This sanctus Tobias in the mention of 1456 seems to be more of an error in memory of the older name. Until 1896, part of the later Büttelgasse was also counted as belonging to this lane. Even today it is still called Tobias Lane in translation.
