Halbengasse
n. e.
History
The lane has borne its name in the inheritance registers since the 16th century, though it was likely in use considerably longer. It was already applied in the 15th century to the Große and Kleine Hosennähergasse (Great and Small Trouser Tailors' Lane) and to Bartholomäi-Kirchgasse -- for the latter in the form "Halbengasse kegenst St. Barthelmes" (Half Lane opposite St. Bartholomew's). The name derives from the fact that all these lanes were originally built up with houses on only one side.
Today, the Halbengasse together with the former Am Sande forms the street Na Piaskach, which translates to "On the Sand."
