Heumarkt
1 Maja
History
According to historical maps, this area served as an ox and horse market since the middle of the 18th century and was named accordingly. The designation Ochsenmarkt (Ox Market) can still be found in Löschin's records as late as 1860. From 1866, the name Heumarkt (Hay Market) came into use, named after the staple feed of the animals traded here.
After World War II, the square was renamed Plac 1 Maja (May 1st Square). Since around 1990, it has borne its old name again, translated into Polish.
