Holzgasse

History
The lane first appears in the suburban inheritance register (Erbbuch) established in 1385, entered as a slightly later addition under the name "Holczgasse in Rehagen" (Timber Lane in Rehagen). In subsequent records, it was regularly referred to simply as Holzgasse.
The designation of the area as "Rehagen" is derived from a personal name that appears several times in Danzig's citizenship registers at the end of the 14th and beginning of the 15th century, much like other suburban street names formed with the same suffix. The addition "im Rehagen" suggests that the area once belonged to the documented Reh family.
After that earliest mention, the lane was only ever listed as Holzgasse (Timber Lane).
