Kohlengasse
Węglarska
History
In 1354 it is mentioned as "twergasse sancti Spiritus versus monachos" (cross-lane at Holy Spirit toward the monks). The name "Colengasse" first appears in 1415, though as early as 1378 a number of coal carriers are listed as residents of the lane. The name thus derives from the coal carriers who lived here, so it should actually be called Coal Carriers' Lane -- and indeed that is what it is called in translation today.
