Pferdetränke
Wodopój
History
The name is first mentioned in 1581: "opposite Kompstgasse at the horse watering place." In the 16th and 17th centuries, the lane was still counted as part of Böttchergasse. In 1796, the section of Böttchergasse between Paradiesgasse and Bartholomäikirchgasse was also included. Since 1814, the present-day extent of the name has been fixed on maps.
The Pferdetränke (Horse Watering Place) owes its name to a watering trough for horses located here -- an essential supply point in the suburb. Today the street's name translates simply as "Watering Place."
