Schinkelgasse
n. e.
History
Initially known under the designation Schinkelgasse, derived from a personal name, it mutated in the 17th century into Stinkgang (Stink Alley). But it did not stay that way, because the nearby Schützengang was called the same. So this lane was unceremoniously renamed to Kleiner Stinkgang (Small Stink Alley). Only in 1877 was it renamed again, after the building of the Lodge Eugenia erected here in the meantime, to Logengang (Lodge Alley). After the Nazis banned the lodges, the lane again changed its name, henceforth being called Langer Gang (Long Alley). After the war, the lane was still listed for a few years under the name ul. Masońska (Freemason's Lane) before finally disappearing.
