Neunaugengasse
Minogi
History
In 1357 the lane is first mentioned without a name. In 1377/78 it is called "twergasse ante sanctum Johannem" (cross-lane before Saint John's). In 1415 it appears as "arta platea scilicet tendelmarkt." Initially, the Tagnetergasse and Neunaugengasse were collectively called Tendelmarkt. This latter designation, which can be traced for the lane until 1487 as "tendet," then passed to the neighboring Tagnetergasse.
For the Neunaugengasse itself, its current name - established in the inheritance register since 1633 - emerged. It derives from hucksters living in the lane who traded in lampreys (a type of fish).
