Schleusengasse
Kieturakisa
Borngasse
History
Around 1650, the street sections on the northern side of the lane, which like almost all other lanes of the Lower City was traversed lengthwise by a broad drainage ditch, already bore the names 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Schleusengasse. The opposite southern side bore the corresponding names 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Borngasse, which subsequently fell out of use. After 1650, both sides were given the same name.
The designation Schleusengasse was prompted by a sluice works located at the junction of the ditch with the Mottlau, which connected the drainage system of the Lower City with the river.
After the war, the street was renamed ul. Śluza, which in Polish simply means "sluice." On December 29, 1972, the eastern part was renamed after the Polish cardiologist Prof. Kieturakis.
